Historical Consciousness Of Chinese Science Fictions In21^st Century

As exotic, science fiction has a history of more than100years in China, duringwhich time Chinese science fiction had setbacks twice and now, it has a new chance.This paper focuses on the oldest and most representative and authoritativeaward-winning works of Yinhe Award to explore the historical consciousness ofChinese science fiction in21stcentury. Besides, those non-winning works and writerswho have won a lot of attention in these years will not be neglected. There are threechapters in this paper, Chapter1will introduce Yinhe Awards, several science fictioncriticism methods and the presence of domestic science fiction study; Chapter2willfocus on the historical time consciousness and Chapter3goes to historical culturalconsciousness.Science fiction which imagines the future and history that means the past seem tobe a set of paradoxes; however, for Chinese Science Fictions in21stcentury, historyhas been everywhere which has two forms, time and culture.Designed to imagine the future, science fiction should have a strong sense of time;however, some writers told us stories without time and space orientation. In this paper,the definition of Collingwood’s history is that of historical time consciousness ofscience fiction.From the time point of view, history is a relative concept, the past is history of thepresence and the presence is history of future. Two different impulses of imaginationresult in two kinds of prefers, imagination of future and reconstruction of history. Inscience fictions of the first kind, utopia has gone with human race facing a variety ofunfortunate possibilities. In spite of disasters and catastrophes, science fiction writersfind a way to struggle the path to hope. For science fictions which aims to reconstructhistory, writers are always keen to The Creator complex，which tends to smooth theancient boundaries of gods and mankind and also treats human as The Creator whilequestioning the legitimacy of this practice. Chinese science fictions without time and space coordinates tend to look formeaning in the traditional cultural symbols. So, historical time consciousness hasbeen gone, instead, it’s time to define the meaning of those traditional culturalsymbols. But not all the works with traditional cultural symbols lost their coordinatesof time and space, that’s why the discussion of the traditional cultural awareness is notlimited to those science fictions mentioned above.From the cultural point of view, one of Chinese science fictions’ features is theusage of Chinese traditional cultural symbols. Intertwined in modern and ancient,science fiction writers express their thoughts and concerns through intertextuality,they show us the break between tradition and modernity and explore tradition’schoices and ours, which indeed is the lack of meaning and moral value in modernspiritual life that has lost its way.
