This report describes and discusses the translation process the author has completed fromthree aspects, namely, an analysis of the source text, production of translation and evaluationby using the Text Analysis Theory. The author first selects tourism texts from the website ofJiangshan City to do Chinese-English translation, and then describes the difficulties met in thecourse of translation and the strategies taken in solving the problems. Through translation, theauthor finds these difficulties are mainly caused by the differences between Chinese andEnglish tourism texts on textual, sentence group and information unit levels. Therefore, in thecourse of translation, the translator should adopt different translation strategies and methods todeal with the difficulties.This report includes four parts. Part One is task description. In this part, the authorintroduces the background and necessity of translation, research objectives and significance aswell as provides an introduction of tourism texts and the source text. Part Two is processdescription. This part describes the whole process of the task, including preparation oftranslation, time schedule, methodology and tools used in translation and a literature review oftourism translation and the Text Analysis Theory. Part Three is the core of the report—caseanalysis. The author organizes this part into three sections. The first section is an analysis ofthe source text. The analysis of the source text focuses on the text level, sentence group leveland information unit level according to Li Yunxing’s Text Analysis Theory about translation.The second section discusses translation strategies and methods used in the course oftranslation. This part describes the difficulties the translator has met and the translationstrategies used in translation. The third section is the evaluation. The evaluation includesself-examination and evaluation by others, who are native English speakers and non-native English-speaking readers. Self-examination mainly focuses on the information, content andtextual functions while evaluations by others are retrieved by a questionnaire on translationacceptability. Part Four is summary and conclusion. This part aims to summarize theapplication of the Text Analysis Theory to Chinese-English translation of tourism texts anddescribes the limitations and shortcomings of the report.
