Enlightenment From Comparison Of Sign Language Interpretation In China And U.S.

This paper mainly researches on sign language interpretation in China and theUnited States. Through a comparison from perspectives of the curriculum provision,the testing system, the accreditation system and the employment, areas ofbackwardness in China are spotted. Then, the enlightenment from sign languageinterpretation in the United States are presented, such as: the curricula of signlanguage interpretation major should consider adding more interpretation courses, it isnecessary to encourage more universities and training institutions to offer signlanguage interpretation major, it would be a good deed if government fund the thetraining of sign language interpreters and provide job opportunities for them. If allthese have been done, the professionalization of sign language interpretation would bequickened and more deaf or hard of hearing people would benefit and their liveswould sure be improved.
