Every year, over200Mongolian students come to China to study Chinese language,culture and study degrees with Chinese students. Chinese students study Mongolian language,history and social studies. By studying communication between China and Mongolia, we canavoid misunderstandings..Mongolian and Chinese languages are very different in habit, content and customs. Thispaper discusses the national customs of greeting and bidding farewell to people in China andMongolia. It focuses on cultural similarities and differences.I studied world literature to determine a definition of greeting&farewells. I studied thedifferent ways to greet&say farewell in different situations. I focused on Mongolian andChinese greetings and farewells. I looked at three situations:1. Greeting&farewell to family&friends2. Greeting&farewell to ordinary strangers3. Greeting&farewell to important strangersMongolian greetings are usually about the weather&animals. Chinese greetings areusually based on major historical experiences. Chinese and Mongolian greetings have morerespectful words for greeting older people.Mongolian farewells often wish people success and happiness. Chinese farewells tellvisitors things to make them feel happy. Chinese and Mongolian farewells often wish peopleto take care of their health.
