Since1987, with the changes in the social and cultural environment and social consciousness,Taiwan has made considerable progress in the documentary in the creation, research, exhibitions andso on. In mainland China, in recent years, with the launch of a documentary channel, a variety ofdocumentary film festival will be held, These are providing a more diverse development platformsfor the local documentary, though only separated by a strait, but the two sides have a lot ofdocumentaries differences. This article will comb through the development of Taiwan’s documentarycontext, to explore the reasons for Taiwan’s documentary booming in recent years.In the1980s, due to advances in the turbulent social movements and photography, from the folkdocumentary Taiwan broke the monopoly of the official media, the documentary becomes a weaponof social movements.
