As a symbol of a country’s political system, the law plays a growing importantrole in today’s world when the cross-cultural communication becomes more and morefrequent. The study about legal documents translation has never been stopped sinceLin Zexu invited Yuan Dehui and an American missionary Peter Parker to translateparts of the book International Laws written by Vettel, a Swiss jurist in1893.Mr. Qiu Guixi is the first one who has generalized five principles of legaldocuments translation that are principles of using formal words and expressions,preciseness, conciseness, term consistency, and using legal terms(Qiu Guixi,2000).Although there are these guiding principles, the phenomenon that the Chinesetranslations of many foreign laws become stylized is still very common, which makesthe translations not only hard to understand but also difficult to be applied into actualuse.This paper is going to present how to understand the original text by paralleltexts and intertextuality theory, how to standardize the target language by usingserious words and kernel sentences, and how to improve translation quality by carefulreview, by the means of the task description, task process and case analysis of thetranslation practice report on THE CONSTITUTION OF THE FEDERATEDSTATESOF MICRONESIA...
