As we all know, vocabulary is one of the most important and basic elements of English acquisition. It is the main bearer of language expression and an important foundation for the development of language skills. In the recent years, with the rapid development of information technology, multimedia technology applied in various fields, especially in the field of education has entered a new period of development. Development of multimedia-assisted learning provides an opportunity to study the impact of multimedia for Second Language Vocabulary Acquisition and make it become a need. But researches about multimedia and network assisted vocabulary acquisition is relatively few.This study analyzed the influence of multimedia network environment on vocabulary acquisition from learner’s perspective. This study takes124college non-English sophomores as the subjects,62are in traditional class which means students learning in the traditional environment. The other62are in comparative class which means students learning in the multimedia and network environment. Through vocabulary tests and questionnaires to explore the following two purposes:1) To search for the correlation between multimedia and network environment and improvement of the students’vocabulary level.2) To make out whether the multimedia and network environment provides the better learning environment for learners’vocabulary acquisition.After analyzing all the results, two conclusions are summarized:1) Multimedia assisted vocabulary learning is more effective than the traditional model, students’vocabulary level in the multimedia assisted environment higher than students’in the traditional mode.2) The use of multimedia networks accepted and recognized by students, multimedia and network assisted vocabulary learning can stimulate students’ interest in learning and help students to construct exhaustive learning objectives, learning strategies, ways of thinking, and provide a better learning environment for the students’ vocabulary acquisition. This study provides some valuable suggestions and methods for students’ vocabulary acquisition in multimedia environment. At the same time, it provides some ideas for building efficient vocabulary acquisition mode and improves the quality of vocabulary acquisition.
