Pilgrimage to the West in the Tang Dynasty is the author of the famous TangDynasty monk--Xuan Zang, this work completed in Zhenguan twenty years (AD646years), is a master Xuan Zang during the19years of the westbound memoriesfinishing, which embellished by his disciple BianJi.The book is divided into12chapters, recorded Xuan Zang push aside all obstacles and difficulties,110countryand28country way heard of these countries, about the local customs and practices,topography, political, economic, cultural, religious, agriculture etc. In this paper, thesyntactic and semantic point of view, The big Chinese Dictionary as the main objectof reference, analysis of Pilgrimage to the West in the Tang Dynasty directional verbby qualitative and quantitative, finally achieve the use of syntactic and semanticdistribution of directional verbs of the Pilgrimage to the West in the Tang Dynasty,so as to explore the evolution of directional verb syntax, support and supplementtrend changes in the whole history of Chinese verbs, at the same time contrast Thebig Chinese Dictionary, supplement and correct the book card that The big ChineseDictionary has to be late, righteousness oversight and other issues.The first chapter: Introduction. Mainly introduces Xuan Zang’s life and thecause of translation, the main content of Pilgrimage to the West in the Tang Dynasty,the research present situation, research methods, the innovation and the judgingstandards of tendency verbs etc.The second chapter: Syntactic distribution of directional verbs in thePilgrimage to the West in the Tang Dynasty.Follow the criterion of tendencyverbs,identified15single syllable directional verbs, syntactic of the15singlesyllable directional verb is illustrated in detail, finally obtains in Tang period,directional verb single use of the proportion is still relatively high, link usage, somedirectional verbs with high frequency of use, some of the low frequency of use,directional verbs as complements is to further the development, there exists thetendency of unbalanced development.The third chapter: The semantic distribution of directional verbs in Pilgrimageto the West in the Tang Dynasty. Interpretation and classification in detail on15single syllable directional verbs meaning, and list description of their usage, on Thebig Chinese Dictionary, the dictionary of documentary evidence found from latefacts, to supplement the example.The fourth chapter: The evolution of the directional verb of the Pilgrimage tothe West in the Tang Dynasty. Analyzing the15single syllable verbs in appearance, Compared with the ShiJi and off spring text, so as to enable us to the development oftendency verbs have a clear understanding of development of directional verbs.The fifth chapter: Conclusion. Since the Tang Dynasty,the development of thedirectional verb has gradually mature, syntactic and semantic individual directionalverb is very rich, such as “lai, qu, jin, guo,qi” and so on, the pace of development ofeach directional verbs are not synchronized, the development of “dao,hui”is the mostslow among them, their syntax and semantics relative single. Through the analysisand research of the directional verb of Pilgrimage to the West in the Tang Dynasty,we found some language features, grammaticalization process of directional verbsand verb system development trend.
