In today’s world which is changing dramatically, countries not only competewith hard power including politics, economy, technology and military, but also withsoft power such as culture. Accordingly, every country has chosen to set up their ownlanguage institute all over the world to popularize their native language as one of themost important ways to strengthen their soft power. For example, Confucius Institute,as China’s language promotion organization, clearly unfolds China’s soft power.The three languages, including Chinese, Japanese and Korean languages, belongto Confucian Cultural Circle, so they have very close connection whatever writingsystems or cultures embedded in languages. The popularizations of Japanese andKorean in Central Asia haven’t last long, consequently, few relevant researches,especially contrast analysis, can be found. This paper is accordingly written tointroduce management models, curriculum arrangement, major development andrelated cultural activities in two representative language institutes in Alma-AtaKazakhstan and Bishkek Kyrgyzstan. One is Japanese Center and the other is KoreanEducational Institute. Besides, the contrast analysis of popularizations of Japanese andKorean in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan, is also made in this paper based oninformation and data provided by the websites of relevant linguistics institutes andsome other websites.To draw a conclusion, the following questions will be discussed in thispaper:First one is popularizations of Japanese and Korean in Kazakhstan andKyrgyzstan and their respective characteristics.Second is experience regarding thepopularizations of the two languages in the above-mentioned countries.Third is thecontrast analysis of the promotions of the two languages, including current status,different characteristics and the cause and effect.Fourth is what China should learnfrom the two countries with regard to the language promotion.
