The thesis consists of three parts, namely, the source text of Contemporary UniversityStrategising: The Financial Imperative, the Chinese version translated by the author and areport on the translation. The source text is a thesis on the financially focused strategiesnow evident amongst contemporary universities, so it is of value for universities in China inthat they can learn how to effectively operate themselves and manage their finances underthe present circumstances of fund deficiency. In addition, the translation of such aninformative text is of significance to the translator because it helps her to deepen herunderstanding of translation theories as well as improving her translation skills.The translation report introduces some basic information about the source text, layingspecial emphasis on its linguistic features. Then it analyzes in detail how the authortranslates the source text under the guidance of Functionalism. Examples are cited toillustrate how she applies Functionalism’s skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule toher translation by resorting to some translation strategies and techniques.
