Report On The Translation Of Civil Engineering Speciality English

With the rapid development of science and technology as well as acceleration of knowledgeupdating, extensive and profound academic exchanges have been pushed forward in the world. Asan important tool for promoting scientific exchanges among countries, EST is of great necessityand many famous experts and scholars attached great importance on it. Meanwhile, collegestudents are fond of newest scientific information with the help of modern media to keep pacewith the times. Therefore, the voice of strengthening people’s ability of speciality English learningis increasingly louder than before. The report aims to improve the translation quality of the authorin this field by analyzing the features and difficulties of CEE, taking civil engineering English forexample.The report is based on some chapters from Civil Engineering Speciality English(edited by SuXiaozu) which is published by Tongji University Press and compiled and written as a textbook toadapt to the course reform. The criterial of “faithfulness, expressiveness and closeness”initiated byLiu Zhongde is the theoretical guide of the report, which emphasizes that the translation should befaithful to source texts of EST and conform to the expression of Chinese.After giving a brief introduction to some information about the translation project includingresearch background, purpose and significance as well as the report structure, the author willmainly illustrate theoretical foundation of the report and analyze the characteristics of EST andpoint out the difficulties encountered in EST translation. In the following part, importance will beattached to translation of technique terms, passive voice and long sentences analysis. Suggestionswill be put forward combined with some concrete samples. The author will also make a reflectionof translation to point out the limitation of this report and some inspirations got from the project.
