A Practice Report On The E-C Translation Of The Paper On Cosmopolitanism "Starting Somewhere Different" Under The Guidance Of Faithfulness,Expressiveness,and Closeness | | Posted on:2022-06-22 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:Y Zou | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2505306512466794 | Subject:Translation Master | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | Cosmopolitanism has currently been arousing the intense interest of many political philosophers and sociologists and has also been closely concerned by cultural and literary research scholars.In view of the current international situation,which calls for the continuous promotion of a partnership of equal treatment,consultation,and mutual understanding,I have selected and translated a few articles in this area and accepted and completed the translation task assigned by my tutor.This report is a summarization of my translation practice,reflecting on the English-Chinese translation of Sabine Selchow’s academic paper “Starting Somewhere Different: Methodological Cosmopolitanism and the Study of World Politics”.Reflection is mainly built on two foundations.One is the accurate grasp of the stylistic features of social science texts.The other is the application of the three translation principles of “faithfulness,expressiveness,and closeness” proposed by Mr.Liu Chongde.The practice report first makes introductions of the study and translation of cosmopolitanism,the translation task and its requirements,and the translation principles.Then a detailed case analysis is made.In the case analysis,the practice report illustrates how to adopt appropriate translation strategies and techniques through a large number of examples to make the translation faithful to the original meaning based on the accurate understanding of the content,smooth in language expression,and stylistically appropriate in terms of style and pragmatics.Under the guidance of translation principles of “faithfulness,expressiveness,and closeness”,I have solved many problems encountered in the translation process.The corresponding solutions have laid an empirical foundation for the translation work in the future and have specific reference significance for general translation practice. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Methodological cosmopolitanism, World politics, Faithfulness/expressiveness/closeness, Understanding/expression/adaption | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
