A Report On Translation Of A Book To Learn TCM Health-preserving (Excerpts) Based On The Principle Of "Faithfulness,Expressiveness,and Closeness"

With the rapid advancement of globalization and deepen implement of “going out”strategy,China holds an increasingly important position in the international community.Meanwhile,international medical exchange and cooperation are gradually frequent.Being an outstanding component of Chinese traditional culture,Traditional Chinese Medicine(TCM)has made unique contributions to human health and global medical development.In this practice report,the author selects A book to Learn TCM Health-preserving(Chapter Three)as the text material,and carries out practice under the guidance of Professor Liu Zhongde's principle of “faithfulness,expressiveness,and closeness”,aiming to realize effective output of technical work based on this principle,better convey Chinese medical culture to the world,and provide certain help for medical translation.This report covers the whole process of this practice.Firstly,this practice report carefully introduces the research background,research significance and translation principle applied in this practice,and records the original text analysis before translation,problems encountered during the translation process,and quality control after translation.Secondly,through aspects of vocabulary,syntax and discourse,it includes nine points to analyze on specific cases and illustrates how the translation principle of “faithfulness,expressiveness,and closeness”provides effective guidance and achieves the final translation version.Finally,with the guidance of this translation principle,the author has successfully solved related translation problems on TCM professional terms,four-character phrases,and TCM compound sentences,etc.to gain complete expression and practical significance.Through the combination of principle and practice,the author finds that: First,TCM culture,with a deep cultural heritage,is profound and extensive.Before translation,the translator should be fully theoretically and psychologically prepared to promote subsequent translation practice.Second,A book to Learn TCM Health-preserving is a medical text,which currently has no English translation version.When translating,the translator should focus on language expression,and explore its deep meaning,to achieve accurate output of TCM culture.Third,the translator should carefully figure out the connection between principle and text material,and use translation principle of “faithfulness,expressiveness,and closeness” to sort out the original text to ensure the readability and fluency of the final translation.Fourth,translation is a complex and lengthy process,only through accumulated practice and communication could the translator improve the translation capability.The successful completion of this practice helps the author not only expand the knowledge of TCM culture,but also grasp the application of “faithfulness,expressiveness,and closeness”,greatly strengthen self translation capability,realize effective output of the translation version,and promote the exchange of Chinese traditional culture as well as facilitate the further development of TCM translation.
