As the first normative Chinese dictionary since the establishment of People’s Republicof China, the “Contemporary Chinese Dictionary” is also an authoritative reference book. Ithas been revised for five times since its inception. And every time after the revision there willbe some new expressions being included in. so far, studies into the “Contemporary ChineseDictionary” involve the following aspects: vocabularies、paraphrase、phonetics、entries anddictionary standards, and so on. What’s more, the emerge of every new revision will befollowed by a great mass fervour. After the sixth edition of “Contemporary ChineseDictionary” comes out in2012, there has been some related research papers. But studiesabout the new expressions are still relatively few now. This article tries to study the newexpressions which are included into the sixth edition of “Contemporary Chinese Dictionary”and tries to find out the vocabulary learning and sociolinguistics values of these newexpressions.This article consists of six parts:The first part is the exordium, which includes a brief introduction of the newexpressions and the former research on them. By the way, illustrating the meaning of thistopic and introducing the research objects and research methods.The second part made a statistics about a certain amount of new expressions andsummarized their diversifications and characteristics.The third part tries to research and analysis the inner structures and formation principlesof the new expressions in “Contemporary Chinese Dictionary” from the angle of grammarand rhetoric.According to the sociolinguistics, the forth part analyzed the correlation between theemergence of new expressions and the development of society.The fifth part discussed the merits and demerits of bringing new expressions to the“Contemporary Chinese Dictionary”The last part is epilogue. This part briefly summarized the study contents anddeficiencies. And then made an anticipation and expectation of study prospect.
