It tells about mining and corruption in Guinea indetails. According to Newmark’s translation theory, communicative translation isappropriate to deal with translation of informative text, such as this in-depth newsreport. So to make the target text fluent and understandable for target readers is thepurpose of this translation practice. Meanwhile, the writer can gain knowledge aboutforeign author’s writing style of news report, and mining and economy in Africa. This thesis consists of four parts, namely task description, process description, case study and conclusion. The first two parts give introduction on the chosen article, preparation of this task and planned process of translation. After analyzing the sourcetext, there are some problems for translation. So in the case study part, the writermakes discussions at lexical and syntactic levels. Since the differences of expressionbetween English and Chinese, idioms and proper nouns in the source text can betranslated through annotation and paraphrase under the guide of communicationtranslation strategy. When dealing with the translation of quotations, expanded simplesentences and complex sentences with dashes, combination and division methods areused to change the words order which can meet with the expression habits of Chinese. In a word, through this report, the writer wants to point out that as a kind ofinformative text, in-depth report should be translated on the basis of communicativetranslation strategy. Translators should try to convey information comprehensivelyand correctly to the target readers, and only in this way, can target language readersunderstand the content and meaning of the article as original readers.
