Thus the correct translation of this bookfills the gap and also has a certain practical value. The original text, the Englishversion of the Recommender System Handbook, is very suitable to be an example tostudy scientific English style because it is moderately difficult, professional, andstructure formalized, and has standardized language and large information. The authorhas chosen the first chapter containing about10,686words, and the translation is about15,000.Through careful analysis of text features and translation requirements，thewriter selects Nida’s functional equivalence theory as a guidance to integrate theorywith practice in the whole translation process.In the process of translation, the author encountered some problems, such asunderstanding of professional vocabularies, translation of complex and long sentencesand so on. Through looking up the related materials, communicating with thesupervisor and asking the professionals for advices, the author solved those problemsone by one. In the translation process, the author also combined the multipletranslation strategies such as division, conversion, English passive sentences intoChinese active sentences and so on to classify, analyzed and summarized theencountered problems, looking forward this report can be able to become a referencefor the later translation of the EST.This translation practice makes the author has a deeper comprehension oftranslation. Translators should not only have a good bilingual ability and mastercertain translation skills, but also should develop the abilities of learning professionalknowledge and using reference books and internet resources. In the process of practice,the author has found my own shortcomings and accumulated translation experience, then my translation skills have improved to a large degree.
