A Report On Translation Of Chapter13in Third Part Of Recommender System Handbook

This thesis is a translation report. The original text of the project is the Englishedition of Recommender System Handbook, which introduces the new system brieflyfrom different aspects, like electric commerce, resources download, news browsing,and provides a lot of constructive suggestions to network users. The section which Itranslate mainly focuses on the evolution of the recommendation system, aiming toprovide a comprehensive, yet concise, source of reference for researchers andpractitioners starting out in this area. And the language is easy to understand while thecontent is explicit and rich. Considering the length of an article, about one hundredthousand words, so we decide to adopt to the team work to finish the whole task.In the report, the author first analyzes the characteristics of the language, the styleas well as the target group of the original test, and then introduces the preparationbefore the translation, including how to manage and arrange team members, readingthe related books and parallel texts, looking up the professional terms, and consultingthe professional experts and teachers modestly and learning electronic businessknowledge. Meanwhile, in the process of translation, the author pays attention tocombine the functional equivalence theory with the specific problems in order tofaithfully convey the style as much as possible.In the whole process of translation, the author benefits much and feels deeply,getting the following conclusion: A, translation method is not exist in isolation, theyare overlapping and mutually dependent, the translator can’t use only one method tocomplete the whole translation; B, the reader’s feedback is a key factor to determinethe quality; C, team cooperation is a booster to ensure the task go smoothly. Selectedtext is very representative, and the English version is for sale around the world. Theauthor looks forward to Chinese version which will open a window to Chinese to understand the newest science and technology culture, and also provide reference forlater similar translation task.
