Abstract/Summary:
This paper studies translation criteria, one of the core issues in translatology. It iswell known that translation criteria have always been the most controversial topic intranslatology. The study would have some positive significance for furtherexploration of translation theory and the development of whole translation circle inscientific field. This paper will comb from the history of Chinese and western translationcriteria the main translation criteria that have ever been put forward at home andabroad, trying to make a summary of the path of translation criteria development andexplore the commonness of Chinese and foreign translation criteria. This paper findsout that both Chinese and western translation criteria have a common characteristic, that is, diversification. This paper also elaborates factors that influence translation criteria, therelationship between the original text, translated text, translator and readers. Thefocus of this paper is on "Plural Complementarism of Translation Criteria" whichwas first proposed by Professor Gu ZhengKun in the1980s. This paper will, first ofall, demonstrate the diversity and complementarity which have positive significancein translation standard research system, and then evaluate the controversial questionof “the best myopic degree” in this theory, trying to make comprehensiveinterpretation of translation criteria from different angles. At last, this paper will prove that different literary forms have truly differenttranslation standards by examples and prove objectivity and rationality of thediversity of translation criteria by this way.
