An Aria Concerts Analysis Of Grieux In Manon Lescaut

Based on the three arias by the hero-Des Grieux in Puccini opera "Manon Lescaut" including Tra voi,belle,brune e bionde; Donna non vidi mai and Guardate pazzo son, combining the background, theme, musical structure and the handling on the three arias, this paper will illustrate how to portray the image of the hero in an opera.Although Manon Lescaut focused on the heroine Manon, it became more excellent because of the love between Manon and Grieux, which extends the conflict and tension in the opera to the greatest degree. Thus, the hero also played a crucial part in the whole opera.This paper will study the different ways by various tenors to deal with this work through a comparison of various versions of the tenor’s arias including the relative video information. This will help the tenors to portray the image of Grieux in a more authentic and touching way. And people will like this opera more because of the hero’s beautiful melody, simple content and sincere emotion.
