Sigh On Manon With The Same Text And Different Songs A Comparative Study Of Massenet And Puccini’s Operas On The Same Subject

Massenet and Puccini were two prominent opera composers of the 19 th century,both of whom had a great interest in the French writer Prevost’s original novel,The Story of Knight Des Grieux and Manon Lescaut,which was adapted and created into opera works on the stage.In the paper,taking the operas Manon and Manon Lescaut,a comparative study was conducted to understand the different dramatic intentions of the two composers.The author will analyze the different views of Prevost and the two composers on the issue of the sexual relationship,and further explore the composer’s creative personality and artistic pursuit by comprehensively using various research methods such as music ontology analysis,hermeneutics and gender research,they are discussed from different perspectives of creation background,opera script comparison,music ontology analysis and comparison,and the characteristics and connotation of opera art.
