A Translation Report Of The Mill On The Floss From The Perspective Of Nida’s Functional Equivalence

Functional Equivalence is suggested by Eugene A. Nida, one of the most famous translation theorists in the world. Different from previous ones, this theory suggests that translators should pay more attention to readers’response. Under its direction, translators are paying more attention to the readers’feeling, instead of pursuing the correspondence between the source language and the target language like they used to do.The Mill on the Floss is an excellent work written by the famous English writer George Eliot. It’s a sad story about a pair of brother and sister whose family owned a mill. This work has exquisite expressions, rich emotions and outstanding style of the language.This thesis mainly introduces Nida’s theories, makes a systematic analysis of this thesis’author’s Chinese translation version of The Mill on the Floss from the perspective of Functional Equivalence, and makes comparisons between different translation versions, thereby fully analyzing the direction role this important theory plays in achieving equivalence translation.
