With the development of economy and shipping industry in China, research and translation of maritime-related literature is becoming increasingly important. The original text and translation used in this report is from the IMO Model Course 1.07(Radar Navigation at Operational Level). The revision program of this model course represents China's first engagement in IMO affairs in terms of development of international maritime standards. As the nature of this revision work is technical translation based on a Chinese version. It is of extreme importance to manage the work under the framework of functional equivalence theory which requires accurate articulation of the original texts into target language. To achieve this purpose, lexical translation plays a crucial role in the translation of the entire text.Based on the practice of this translation, two categories of common lexical problems in the terms of meaning equivalence and style equivalence in the course of translation was summarized and illustrated in this report. Finally,it is suggested that translators of similar texts should attach sufficient importance to the specific contextual meaning of words, the application of accurate technical terms and the appropriateness of lexical expressions.
