This research intends to find the actual features of teacher-student interaction in intensivereading classes for English majors, through analyzing videos of The3rd SFLEP NationalForeign Language Teaching Contes(tEnglish majors group)national finals. So the followingquestions need to be addressed. In Intensive Reading Class for English Majors:1. What is the overall teacher-student interaction like now?2. What is the distribution of teacher-student interaction?3What are the types of teacher-student interaction?The ITIAS interaction analysis coding system method and Student-Teacher analysismethod was described in details. Based on the collection and analysis of the data, from theaspect of teacher-student interaction the author gets the following findings.(1) The overall teacher-student interaction is the dominance of teacher’s talk, theshortage of students’ participation and the direct influence of teaching. The teacher-studentinteraction is still teacher-centered not interactive.(2) Within the seven Intensive Reading Class for English Majors teachers’, T1and T3having more frequent teacher-student interaction. The main distribution time ofteacher-student interaction is from6to7minutes and16to17minutes, with the instructionalcontents of lead-in and discussion two parts.(3) The types of teacher-student interaction are teacher asking a closed question andstudents responding passively with teacher’s encouragement and acceptations. Students’active responding and questions asking rarely happened. So that is to say, the teacher-studentinteraction in china is passive and the student’s active participation needed to be explored.Based on the findings, the researcher has derived some implications. The actual statement of teacher-students interaction intensive reading classes for English majors is notdynamic. The schools, teachers and students have to make great efforts to create an activeteacher-students interaction atmosphere. This research is of importance to reflect the actualteacher-student interaction situation, stimulate teachers to improve their teaching behavior inorder to maximize students’learning in the intensive reading classes for English majors.
