Yao is a nation with a unique culture, but also a country with a long history of ethnic migration. Yao only has its own language without words, whose folk literature is spread mainly by oral or mental instruction. Yao oral folklore such as lots of classic myths, stories, songs and folk proverbs literature, all vividly records the Yao people’s lives and mentality in different historical periods. Yao folk literature not only has many social functions including education and entertainment, but also reflects the spiritual world and aesthetic sense of the Yao nationals. There is no written form of the Yao ethnic histories, so these folk literatures handed down orally, especially those handed down with Yao language, vividly reflect the social lives of the Yao people in different historical periods from the contents and subjects. They are the collective wisdom of the Yao people, guiding people to learn and do good, strengthening people’s Yao identity, and playing a regulatory role in daily life.Strengthening the protection and heritage of the Yao folklore meets the need of developing the nation’s traditional culture, and it is an inevitable choice for the Yao people’s sustainable cultural development. However, with the rapid development of economy, people’s living environment of culture had a great change. As a result, the folk literatures in the minority area are facing unprecedented challenges. The young people are lack of cognition of their own folk literature and the folk literature has emerged fault phenomena, such as the disappearance of the Yao folk songs that are generated orally. The protection and the heritage of the folklore became an emergent and unavoidable issue for our country. This research is illustrated by the case of the author’s hometown Fuchuan Yao autonomous country in Guangxi Autonomous region. Based on the method of documentation, the author studies a large number of books, monographs, papers about the culture and literature of the Yao folk, and through several field investigations of holding interviews with young students in the local school, learns about their cognitive status and characteristics of their native folk literature in today’s cultural environment, In addition, the author carries out thorough investigation on school, family and social education of the Yao folk literature, focusing on the individual differences and revealing the main problems and their effects. Through the investigation, it is found that both the heritage status and school education of the Yao folk literature have some shortcomings. In this regard, the study proposes several solutions from the aspects of government support, parent-child interaction, development and utilization of local schools and school-based teaching materials, and improvement of teacher quality. Therefore, by exploring the awareness of Yao teenagers to their ethnic folk literature, the traditional Yao culture would be better criticized and inherited to improve the development of Yao nationality. It not only has the academic sense, but also has practical significance. From the aspect of the world cultural pattern, the development of the global culture shows the multi-polar and multi complementary tendency. In this cultural background, the study of the Yao folk literature and its multicultural is good not only for the macro-research of our national culture, but also for carrying forward and developing of the Yao folk literature.
