The Variety Of The Theory Of Logical Empiricism

As an important philosophical movement of Western philosophy, The Logical empiricism, had a significant impact in the field of western philosophy and science. They tried to use mathematical logic to eliminate Metaphysics, and tried to describe the various fields of science in a unified language, so as to constructs a unified science. But in the50years of development of logical empiricism, the views between representatives of each one are different, not only in everyone’s different fields, or even in the same issues between them. The whole idea of logical empiricism is formed on the basis of criticism and progress.This paper analyzed the major works of some representatives of logical empiricism, and than prove the diversity of the theory of logical empiricism by exploring the scientific basis of their theory.This article includes the introduction, the conclusions and four chapters. In the introduction introduced the significance of the major issue, reviews on research status of logical wmpiricism, and the structure of the thesis. In the conclusion is the overall summary of all text above.Chapter I:"Geometry and empirical science". This capter discussed the logical empiricist perspectives in the field of geometry. Because the role of mathematical logic played a very important role in the development of logical empiricism. By virtue of the analysis of special mathematical certainty, the author points out the important role of mathematical theorems and assumptions in logical empiricism.Chapter II:"The philosophical significance of the theory of relativity". The rise of logical empiricism started in connection with the Theory of Relativity. Logical empiricists believe Einstein’s relativity physics not only of physical significance, but also philosophical significance.Chapter Ⅲ:"The mind-body problem in the development of logical empiricism". Mind-body problem is one of the major issues discussed in logical empiricism. They also tried to reduce the physical statment to the physical one. In this chapter, the author focuses on the nature of the mind-body problem, and points out the importance of the mind-problem in the whole idea of logical empiricism.Chapter IV:"Sociology and physicalism". Eliminate metaphysics and the unified science are two important slogan of logical empiricism. This chapter is aim to analyze the sociology in the standing from Physicalism.
