Functional Studies Of Meicuo And Bucuo Based On Discourse Analysis

"Meicuo" and "bucuo" are two words in Modern Chinese Language that be used by people usually. The reason for "meicuo" and "bucuo" to be used by people usually is that they could be used in multiple contexts; express rich semantics and pragmatic functions. However, the research about "meicuo" and "bucuo" is few. Even with related research from the perspective of just starting to learn vocabulary, which left us with a lot of research space. To study the in-depth understanding of the major functions of "meicuo" and "bucuo" can makes more people know their usage.In this paper, we use the method of combination of description explanation, the method of combination of dynamic and static and the method of combination of combination of quantitative and qualitative, combining theory of systemic functional linguistics, linguistic theory chapter, and pragmatic theory. By the premise of a large text corpus, we studied the functions of "meicuo" and "bucuo" in discourse.In this paper, we put "meicuo" and "bucuo" into three kinds based on the functional perspective:sure answer word "meicuo1"and "bucuo1"; sure convergence word "meicuo2" and "bucuo2"; instructions demonstrate discourse marker "meicuo3" and "bucuo3". Being different with previous situation of studying words, the author organizes three big chapters to study the functions of "meicuo" and "bucuo" based on texts.In the First Chapter, we overview research aim and meaning, research theories and methods, study area, corpus sources.In the Second Chapter, we put "meicuo" and "bucuo" in dialogue discourses. We analysis the contextual features of "meicuo1" and "bucuo1" and their discourse functions as sure answer words. Their discourse functions include two kinds:word coping function and discourse cohesive function. And the word coping function includes judgment function, agrees function, discourse marker function/verbal feedback, irony function, sigh function.In the Third Chapter, we study the discourse function and pragmatic function of "meicuo2" and "bucuo2" as sure convergence word. The discourse function of "meicuo2" and "bucuo2" is mainly in the functional aspects of convergence including sentence occasion convergence function and articles occasion convergence function. The pragmatic function of "meicuo2" and "bucuo2" has two kinds that are proposed dialogue function and evaluation function.In the Forth Chapter, we have two parts. In the First Part, we study the functions of "meicuo3" and "bucuo3" as instructions demonstrate discourse markers. In the Second Part, we study the blur history and the formation mechanism of "meicuo3" and "bucuo3". We put "meicuo3" and "bucuo3" into "non-turning context’meicuo3’""non-turning context ’bucuo3’" and "turning context ’meicuo3’""turning context ’bucuo3’" according to discourse features in the First Part. In the discourse function,"meicuo3" and "bucuo3" have convergence function and instructions demonstrate functionality. At the same time,"turning context ’meicuo3’" and "turning context ’bucuo3’" have limit function. In the pragmatic function,"non-turning context ’meicuo3’" and "non-turning context ’bucuo3’" have signaling function; and "turning context ’meicuo3’""turning context ’bucuo3"’has background features. In the Second Part, we study the blur history by two paths of "non-turning context ’meicuo3’""non-turning context ’bucuo3’" and "turning context ’meicuo3’""turning context ’bucuo3’":the way of changing in the context which formation mechanism is grammaticalization and subjectivisation and the way of reanalyzing which formation mechanism is grammaticalization and lexicalization.The last Chapter sums up the whole dissertation, points out the deficiency of the text. Finally, points out the research direction later.
