| This study is centered on Korean discourse maker "Geunyang" which is used as an adverb originally. The study has analysed the pragmatic function and mental state hint function of "Geunyang" and the results are as follows.First, in terms of semantics, adverb "Geunyang" has the meaning of "as it has been; without any change", but as a conception strategy, the meaning of vocabulary of discourse maker "Geunyang" has disappeared or weakened. Thus the distinction between the two is that the adverb"Geunyang" fulfills the grammatical function, and the discourse maker"Geunyang" fulfills the conversational function.Second, in terms of syntax, compared with the grammatical function of the adverb "Geunyang", the discourse marker "Geunyang" is more independent in the article, and the location of it is more flexible.Thirdly, in the aspect of pragmatics, the pragmatic function of discourse marker "Geunyang" is headed by the most important central function "mitigation", and it can also emphasize the role of the connection,strive for time, vague, and show the attitude. In addition, the discourse marker "Geunyang" can also hinder the moderator's attitude, hesitate /avoid the attitude of answering, anger emotions, emphasizing the speaker's attitude, weakening attitude, negative attitude, no concern and affirmation as a mental state hint.The study helps Korean learners to master the conversational function of discourse marker "Geunyang" correctly, also helps to make a better conversation and understand the attitude of the speaker well. |
