| The splendid Chinese civilization had been record by development of Chinese traditional architecture vividly. Architecture decoration is a true portrayal of civilized society, regional culture and folk customs. As an important part of folk houses in South of the Yangtze, arts of traditional tracery had been combine by artistry, history, culture and practicability. The greatest value of decorative portion of folk houses in South of the Yangtze was reflected in the arts of traditional tracery. Collective wisdom and artistic pursuit of ancient working people had been embody by arts of traditional tracery.In the article, traditional tracery arts, art deco features and aesthetic value of folk houses in South of the Yangtze had been study deeply. The factors which influence the development and style features of folk houses in South of the Yangtze were analyzed. Basic theory of traditional tracery arts was concluded. According to research, there are three steps to put forward suggestions for further study: First, basic literature data, field trips and typical design cases was helped to understand the protection and development status of traditional tracery arts; Second, practical value, innovative approach and innovative law were used to analyze the development and application of folk houses in South of the Yangtze in modern design; Third, the problems and deficiencies that exist in the innovative design were summed up. In the collision of tradition and modernity, the way to achieve heritage and innovation of traditional tracery arts of folk houses in South of the Yangtze was summarized. The design practice had been guide by the heritage, innovation, ideas and ways, which were raised from research of the article. Modern design is developing. Traditional tracery arts should be protected and inherited.
