Localization is the reform process which happens to various religions, as well as Catholic art localization. This reform not only help its preach, it also had a certain impact on Chinese art and even Western art. From cultural commissioning to deeply localized stage, the Catholic Art localization vividly reflects the development momentum and the situation of Catholic in China and the tension between Chinese traditional culture and Christian culture.Catholicism in China under various challenges in the early20th century, the trend of the localization has never stopped since Catholic came to China. Localization in China is from the inside to the outside of the church in the early20th century, Celso Benigne-Louis Costanti came to China means the localization officially launched. In terms of religious art, Costanti have greatly enthusiasm, he has a profound artistic accomplishment and theoretical basis, so he also had the unique understanding of the localization of art on his own. Under his guidance, Fu Jen Catholic university was founded. Costanti baptism Chen Yuandu who was the art teacher later, Chen Yuandu led his students Liu Hongnian and Wang Suda, created many Catholic icon pictures. Their works have obvious characteristics, such as the painting is on the silk, and the subject is focus on the holy family, and the brush work is Chinese writing style with western style light perspective. Their work displayed in China and abroad, attracted lots of attention. In addition, Mon Van Genechten, the Belgian artist, actively learned Chinese painting, and during the period in Fu Jen University he worked as a teacher and created many famous paintings. His love of Chinese culture and his missionary zeal makes his works show more profound significance.Catholic art localization is not only on the artistic image, the impact on the building also had great influence. Fu Jen Catholic university is the product. The architect Dom Adelbert Gresnig learned the construction of the Chinese temple, and created Fu Jen University.In conclusion, the Catholic localization of Chinese is a long campaign, it was the interaction of different cultures, understanding and communication, religious art image localization should not just be the change of symbol, it is a process of with the times and constantly exploration, enrich their own.
