E-C (English-Chinese) translation is a very important form of E-C LanguageContact, and also the main reason of causing Europeanization of Chinese whichpossesses positive and negative value. To judge whether an Europeanizationphenomenon is positive or not one should take the specific context in the original textinto consideration. Based on the previous researches, the author tries to propose the‘relative’ meaning of Europeanization and classify the Europeanization into relativelypositive Europeanization and relatively negative Europeanization. The former canenrich Chinese and bring vigor to the development of Chinese. While the latter leads tolots of negative changes of Chinese. This reminds us, especially the translators of E-Ctranslation, of giving full attention to this phenomenon, and breaking down the mind-setin the translation. The best way of being vigilant is to obtain full understanding of theEuropeanization of Chinese. Only in this way can the positive value of Europeanizationbe given into full play, and the relatively negative Europeanization be avoided intranslation. Taking the translation version of the third chapter in Teaching and Learningin the Language Classroom by Tricia Hedge as material and by virtue of word countingtool in Microsoft Word, this report tells that how the author strives to keep the relativelypositive Europeanization and avoid the relatively negative Europeanization withcorresponding translation strategies and techniques in an introspective way. This kind ofintrospection is of great importance to E-C translators, and will meanwhile contribute tothe translation studies.
