This paper focuses on acquisition of vocabulary and vocabulary learning strategies used by students who study in Yangon University of Foreign Languages. The paper analyses the vocabulary learning strategies and vocabulary acquisition. Students use different learning strategies and vocabulary acquisition resulting in different results. This paper focuses on two approaches that are about learning and acquisition of Chinese vocabulary, this is done in an attempt to understand which kind of approach is best to help improve vocabulary acquisition. In addition try to know the most appropriate vocabulary learning strategies for Myanmar students, and how to learn words/vocabulary more effectively and give recommendations.This paper is divided into five parts:The first chapter introduces1. the purpose and significance of the paper,2.acquisition and vocabulary learning strategies theories and research methods used.The second chapter analyses vocabulary acquisition surveys carried out.ä»–he survey is carried out through two tests. The first test is statistical and the second is an analytical test. The author conducted a test of how many words students grasped and analyzed the results. The results show that first-year Chinese students can grasp between of1008-1136words. According to Chinese professional vocabulary test, we can determine the participants are on which level. The author then conducted research using vocabulary proficiency test. The vocabulary proficiency test results show that the average score is76. Overall, the vocabulary of first year students in Myanmar has not reached proficiency stage; it is still in the foundation stage.The third chapter is a discussion of vocabulary strategies, describes and classifies vocabulary learning strategies.We focus on vocabulary learning strategics used by Myanmar students, statistics and analyze the results. The results showed that the time the first year Chinese students start learning Chinese vocabulary, they use five strategies, they are: utilize strategies, cognitive strategies, social affective strategies, resources strategies and meta cognitive strategies. Among the five strategies, the most commonly used strategy is the utilization strategies and the least used strategy is meta the cognitive strategy.The fourth chapter consists of two parts: in the first part survey results from the first two chapters will be compared, students using different learning strategies and the amount of the vocabulary learned. The author gives recommendations based on Chinese vocabulary results of Myanmar students, in addition give learning and teaching suggestions. The second part is based on learning strategies presented and give teaching and learning suggestions.The fifth chapter is the conclusion, and the summary.
