A Report On Company Profile Translation Under The Guidance Of Parallel Texts

The establishment of Shanghai Pilot Free-Trade Zone encourages companies to engage more in international trade. As a company’s profile tells what the company is all about, there has been an increasing interest in high-quality company profile translation for those who want to go global.As C. Nord has underlined the important role auxiliary texts play in translation, the purpose of this thesis is to explore how to use parallel texts of the target language as a tool in the translation process. To illustrate this, the author has translated the Chinese online profile of Shuanghui Group into English, using the English online profile of Smithfield Foods as a model parallel text. The author attempts to exemplify how to address the problems and difficulties encountered in the translation process through the use of parallel texts. The examples are mainly concerned with word translation and sentence translation. The goal is to draw attention to translation preparation and to stress the importance of parallel texts in translation. It is concluded that parallel texts can help translators in their translation and enhance their translation competence.
