As an attempt of the application of political theory, this article tries to apply "the Contentious Politics Theory" into the virtual network space where Chinese Muslims take the most part. Some processes and mechanisms of Contentious Politics Theory are discussed, such as boundary activation and identity in the application of the virtual space, and its effects on agent both in real space and virtual space. An interpretation is given when these mechanisms or processes are complete in the network. That is, what the impact of virtual space is on the agent, and an interaction relationship is drawn between the virtual space and real space. These efforts help to understand the mechanism of the emergence and development of contemporary Chinese Muslims unique "insult to Islam" collective protest events, to replenish and expand Chinese Muslims as the agent of collective protest of "insult to Islam" related mechanisms of action in the virtual space of the formation and to verify the applicability of the Contentious Politics Theory in China. In addition, this paper analyzes so-called "East Turkistan" terrorist activities in Xinjiang region associated with the virtual cyberspace from the perspective of Contentious Politics Theory, so as to reflect the appropriateness of our country’s anti-terrorism strategy or provide some reference value.
