With the development of intercultural communication, there are thousands of foreign filmsand TV programs pouring into China and more and more domestic films and TV series havebeen put on the international market. At the same time, the exchange of the TV products alsopromotes the development of intercultural communication in turn. In this situation, the subtitletranslation plays an important role as a bridge. As a new field of translation, subtitle translationbecomes more and more important and has attracted more and more attention in recent decades.The subtitle translation with high quality can not only attract more audiences by making themenjoy themselves, but also promote the communication between different cultures. However, wecouldn’t deny the fact that Chinese TV documentary series are not that hot while A History ofBritain or American Revealed etc. TV documentary series are becoming popular in the China,which results in that Chinese culture is not well known by foreign friends while Chinese peopleare familiar with foreign cultures. In the writer’s opinion, one of the reasons is about the badquality of the subtitle translation of the export TV products.This report is based on the writer’s subtitle translating experience for The History ofHuantai. In order to make subtitle translation play a better role in the interculturalcommunication, this report provides an explicit background of the task, its purpose and meaning,its process and case analysis. It studies the subtitle translation from the aspects of lexical,syntactic and textual levels. In addition, apart from applying to all kinds of translation strategiesand tips into the subtitle translation flexibly, the writer also thinks that the culture of the sourcelanguage should be kept or adjusted according to the characteristics of the type of the TVproducts and the target readers.By providing her own experience in subtitle translating, the writer hopes it may be helpfulto other students majored in MTI to improve their translating skills in this field.
