Confucianism about the nature of "Pine’s endurance in cold winter "opened the first sign of Pine’s moral, which has been praised highly by men of letters at all times and gained richest moral connotations, finally became the symbols of gentleman’s personality. Owing to its special natural aesthetic characteristics, cultural implication and unique personality orientation, the pine has significant advantages in the same subject of Chinese Painting.A large number of Chinese paintings subject to pine for images have emerged in an endless stream, the pine tree with its firm and indomitable spirits and auspiciousness of long life corresponds to the beautiful pursuit in people’s soul. Besides the traditional morals of "its endurance in cold winter and its heart", Pine also shows a variety of connotations in paintings. Pine’s connotations, as an important element of landscape painting, figure painting and flower-and-bird painting or other literary works have been passed down, by which the painters express their personality ideal with metonymy and a clear mind and heart. This paper, starting from the development history of Pine’s culture, focuses on the culture connotation of pine for image in Chinese painting context. It takes pine’s painting style evolution for generations of painters as the study object and intends to comb the pine’s manifestations of Chinese paintings in different periods and its time spirits.
