The21st century is an era of information globalization. English, as a tool for internationalcommunication, is an essential quality requirement for modern people. As our country isbecoming more and more in line with international standards, the social demand for English isbecoming higher and higher, so, schools attach more importance to the cultivation andimprovement of English application ability. The traditional higher vocational English teachingmode is not suitable for the development of modern society because the new CurriculumStandard for College English Teaching issued by the Chinese Ministry of Education requiresthat one of the major objectives for foreign language teaching is to cultivate students’comprehensive language competence and to foster their autonomous learningcapability.Therefore, in order to meet the challenges of the development of science andtechnology and the innovative talent training in the21st century, our country’s current highervocational English teaching mode must be reformed fundamentally.The thesis mainly adopts research methods such as literature research, classroomobservation and questionnaire investigation, etc.By comparing the learning situation of theexperimental class and comparative class, this assay discussed how to promote college Englishautonomous learning teaching, improve teaching effect, for higher vocational college Englishteaching reform in our country to explore a feasible way of thinking.This paper is mainly divided into six parts:Introduction, autonomous learning theory,teaching strategy research, experimental study on teaching strategies, the ideas on autonomousteaching strategies of cultivating autonomous learning ability of the vocational school students,the conclusion and consideration.The experimental results show that the experimental class students improve the interest oflearning English, form good learning habits, and master the method of autonomous learning byautonomous learning, which can improve the learning efficiency and learning effect and laid a good foundation for future learning.
