Identity formation and development are the most important tasks forindividuals who are in adolescence and early adulthood. During thisperiod, individuals think about the future, plan for the future,independently explore and think about the self-related domains.Individual’s ability to successfully complete identity formation anddevelopment is an important prerequisite to the development of physicaland mental health of individuals.This study selected Mongolian, Han college students as subjects,discuss the following questions using the questionnaire method: First,the general characteristics of identity process of Mongolian and Hanuniversity student; Second, the relationship of time perspective,self-determined motivation and identity process in Mongolian and Hancollege students; Third, the role of self-determined motivation inrelationship of time perspective and identity processes in Mongolian andHan college students; Fourth, the relationship of balanced timeperspective classification, motivation classification and identity status.Conclusions are as follows:(1) Ethnic and gender main effects are significant on Present Hedonism, Present Fatalism and Past Negative, mutual effect of ethnicand gender is significant on Future time perspective. Ethnic and gendermain effects are significant on Amotivation; ethnic main effect issignificant on Intrinsic Motivation, while gender main effects is not;gender main effect is significant on Extrinsic Motivation, while ethnicmain effects is not; mutual effect of ethnic and gender is not significanton either of these three dimensions. Ethnic main effect is significant onCommitment and In-depth Exploration, while gender main effects andmutual effect of ethnic and gender are not; none of these three effects aresignificant on Reconsideration of commitment.(2) Correlation analysis showed that, in all subjects, the PresentHedonism, Present Fatalism and Past Negative positively correlate withAmotivation, while Future and Past Positive negatively correlate with it;Present Hedonism, Future and Past Positive positively correlate withIntrinsic Motivation and Extrinsic Motivation; Present Hedonism, Future,Past Positive, Intrinsic Motivation and Extrinsic Motivation positivelycorrelate with Commitment, while Present Fatalism and Amotivationnegatively correlate with it. All five dimensions of time perspectivealong with Intrinsic Motivation and Extrinsic Motivation positivelycorrelate with In-depth Exploration; All five dimensions of timeperspective and all three dimensions of self-determined motivationpositively correlate with Reconsideration of Commitment. There are differences in correlation among the three variables in Mongolian andHan college students.(3) Self-determined motivation exerts mediating effect between timeperspective and identity process, the indirect effect of time perspectivedimensions to the identity process through self-determined motivation isspecifically different. There are modeling differences betweenMongolian and Han college students.(4) The more Individuals’ time perspective close to perfect balancedtime perspective, the higher score of Commitment and In-depthExploration and they are more likely to reachAchievement Status.
