As we all know, learning a foreign language is not just learning thelanguage itself, but to learn a way to communicate. In real situations,communication and culture cannot apart from each other, so more and morepeople realize that language learning and cultural learning are inseparable. Inrecent years, cultural teaching is becoming one of the hotspots in field ofEnglish teaching. The textbook is the source of the information which canrealize the cultural teaching goal and it is also the strong educational tool todeliver the cultural knowledge. According to "non-English Master/PhDgraduate English teaching basic requirements (on Trial)", one of thegraduate stage’s training objectives is to develop and improve learners’cross-cultural communicative competence. The analysis of the NewPerspective Graduate English cultural content will help us to check learners’learning effect on their cross-cultural communicative competence. There arethree books of the New Perspective Graduate English. For the respondenthave just learned two of them, so we only analysis and evaluate the culturalcontent of the New Perspective Graduate English’s first book and secondbook.The major findings of this thesis are:1. In order to cultivate learners’cultural awareness and cross-cultural communicative competence, the NewPerspective Graduate English provide a lot of cultural information andmaterials. The New Perspective Graduate English meets the requirement ofthe "non-English Master/PhD graduate English teaching basic requirements(on Trial)".2. Due to the plentiful language knowledge、the lack of culturalexercises and the complexity of the cultural, the effect of the New Perspective Graduate English in improving learners’ cross-cultural communicativecompetence is not very well.3. Because of following the traditional teachingmode, the effect of the New Perspective Graduate English in cultivatelearners’cultural awareness is limited.This study consists of five parts: The first part is the introduction. This partintroduces the research background, research purpose and thesis frameworksdetailed. The second part is literature review, including some of the coreconcepts, teaching cultural contents and cultural teaching contents. The thirdpart is the study design, including research questions, research methods andmaterials analysis. The fourth part is a discussion of the results. The fifth partis the demonstrate of the study main findings.
