"Pansori " is a type of classic storytelling musical that combines the elements from literature, music and performing arts. Originally there are total12Pansori musicals in history, but only5of them have been passed clown to us today, which are Chunhyangga, Simcheongga, Heungbuga, Jeokbyeokga, and Sugungga. These are the precious pieces for studying Korean civilian literature. Among them, Chunhyangga was based on one of the best-known classic folk tales The Story of Chunhyang. Along with Chen Qing Zhuan, Xing Fu Zhuan, they are considered as the three great Korean Classic Novels that originated from the folk legends and ballads, and have been widely spread in Korean Peninsular."Pansori " as an important genre of art, it is a rich cultural heritage of Korea, and it is favored by the mass population due to its unique vocal ism and performance. Therefore, from the aspect of vocal arts, Chunhyangga is not only a literature, but also contains extremely rich cultural elements of Korean folk arts. This paper is going to discover the characteristics of " Pansori " by focusing at the libretto of Chunhyangga and set forth from the aspects of both literature and musicology.The paper consists of five parts. Part one, Introduction, describes the current research status, the origins of the resources of Chunhyangga and "Pansori". It states the purpose, importance, and the methodology of this paper as well. Part Two: Chapter One, The Origin of "Pansori" and the Development of Chunhyangga. This chapter starts with the introduction of the origin of "Pansori " giving the readers a preliminary understanding of the topic; then sets forth the formation and development of the libretto of Chunhyangga, and provides the groundwork for the further discussion. Part Three:Chapter Two, Study the Content of " Pansori" Chunhyangga Libretto. The libretto of Chunhyangga consists of total eight parts and seventy-four stanzas and the author emphasizes its transforming structure. As a story-telling music form, the lyrics are important in developing the plots. Therefore, the author is going to select parts of the libretto and to analyze the contrasts of the characters and the scenes, which are the charming part of the art of "Pansori". Part Four:Chapter Three, Analyzing the Music of "Pansori " Chunhyangga Libretto. Based on the music feature of "Pansori" and the detail music performance and expression of the libretto of Chunhyangga, the author is going to analyze it from different aspects as vocalizations, rhythm, singing tones and so on. In the process of researching, the author discovers two different versions of librettos for the same stanza, and proves the flexibility of the music form of " Pansori", which will be elaborated in details in the paper by comparing and contrasting the both versions. Part Five, Conclusion. The storytelling musical usually portrays the images of the characters and narrative the plot by the artist’ s tones, intonation, and dictions; furthermore, use music to highlight and exaggerate the language expression. Closely integrating with music and language are the important feature of the art of storytelling musical."Pansori " is a unique form of storytelling musical not only because of its special vocalization, rhythm and beat, but also because the "Pansori" artist has to play multiple characters at the same time.
