A Report On Translation Practice Of Excerpts From Under The Dome

The translation material is the first three chapters excerpted from the novel:Under the Dome written by an American novelist Stephen King. The story describes that a small and common town named Chester’s Mill in Maine in America is one day suddenly cut off from the outside world by a huge, invisible and indestructible dome which truly drops down from sky. Therefore, the inhabitants trapped inside must exert them to survive from diminishing resources and rising tensions in the worsening environment. The author of this report translates the material under the guidance of Theory of Equivalent Effect and summarizes four primary translating strategies and translating methods applied in this translation practice.This translation practice report includes five chapters. The first chapter is a whole and brief introduction to this translation report. The chapter of introduction to the translation task is the introduction to the writer, the novel and the purpose of this translation practice. The chapter of translation preparation and translating process mainly describes the features of the language in the original novel, the chosen translation theory guiding the translation process:Theory of Equivalent Effect and a whole process of this translation. The fourth chapter summarizes four primary translating strategies and translating methods mainly used in this translation practice. And the last chapter finally describes the experience and limitations of this translation practice.
