The first three parts drawthe outline of canonization in Jen-Chien TZ’u-hua from the longitudinal perspective, i.e. thewhole canonization process of Jen-Chien TZ’u-hua from being neglected to being set up as aclassic. Chapter one is the period of pre-canonization (1908-1949). Chapter two is theconstruction period of canonization in argument (1949-1978). Chapter three is thecompletion of canonization (1978-today). Conclusion discusses the enlightenments get fromthe canonization process of Jen-Chien TZ’u-hua.Pre-canonization period (1908-1949) can be subdivided into silence period (1908-1926),and exploration period (1926-1949) which makes Jen-Chien TZ’u-hua begin to enter theacademic field. From silence to public, then to consolidation, Jen-Chien TZ’u-hua is a resultof connected efforts: Yu Boping has discovered and interpreted it; the press has acceptedand advertised it; many critics have participated in and promoted the canonization process ofit. During pre-canonization period, Jen-Chien TZ’u-hua has not entered literary criticismwriting, which means that it’s classical status has not been fully recognized. However,pre-canonization is the prerequisite for Jen-Chien TZ’u-hua’s canonization and makespreparation for canonization in the later period.From1949to1978, there is an argument about Jen-Chien TZ’u-hua in the mainland. This hot debate has lasted for a long time (1957-1966). A variety of literature papers havepublished the critical articles about Jen-Chien TZ’u-hua, which has caught the attention ofmany people and has a wide range of influence. Due to the politicization of literature, academic debate even has transferred into political struggle. There are two schools, namely, political criticism and academic criticism. The argument between two schools which hasbeen interrupted by cultural revolution has not achieved any substantial results, but hasproved its influence and popularity for it has gained the attention of disputers. There is a stark contrast and an interesting dialogue about Jen-Chien TZ’u-hua amongHong Kong, Taiwan and mainland from1949to1978. In this period, Hong Kong andTaiwan have set off a debate about Jen-Chien TZ’u-hua, which is purely an academicargument. Thanks to its free and independent academic environment, the scholars canexplore Jen-Chien TZ’u-hua freely from an academic point of view, investigate its academicvalue and restore its original appearance. Their achievements which as the results outsidemainland have made great contribution to the canonization process of Jen-Chien TZ’u-hua,giving inspiration to mainland scholars after cultural revolution. The study of Jen-Chien TZ’u-hua from1978to today can be divided into two stages.1978to early1980s can be viewed as the transition period, during which people graduallyuse general negative and specific positive opinion to replace the negation and criticism onJen-Chien TZ’u-hua; mid1980s to today can be regarded as the boom period, during whichresearch on Jen-Chien TZ’u-hua has been fully developed and flourished: Various versionsof Jen-Chien TZ’u-hua are collected and document supplements are carried out in full swing, laying a foundation for the spread and in-depth study of Jen-Chien TZ’u-hua; there emerge alarge amount of papers and monographs about Jen-Chien TZ’u-hua; many literary criticismhistory, philosophy and aesthetics have paid much attention to Jen-Chien TZ’u-hua, duringwhich Jen-Chien TZ’u-hua has experienced from not being collected before the foundationof PRC to being collected from late1970s to early1980s; from a combined section to aseparate section, then to a special chapter; historical frequency is increasing and historicalrange is more intensive. In addition, people’s judgment of Jen-Chien TZ’u-hua also hasexperienced a lot: from the political negation before to the overall negation but concretecertainty and then to the full affirmation and recognization. Of course, with Jen-ChienTZ’u-hua’s coming into all kinds of writing, it has become an essential part of educationsystem and finally its classical status has gotten full acceptance and approval. This study has provided us with some implications: Due to the restriction of age, different work has different fate, and the standard of canonization is a dynamic process. Ageis the external factor that determines whether a work is canonization or not. Nevertheless, external factor merely can produce temporal and era canonization, and real canonization isable to stand the test of times. But how? The answer lies in the work itself which has rich connotation and artistic vitality, making it suitable for every generation. As a whole, wethink that inner aesthetic quality is the prerequisite for Jen-Chien TZ’u-hua’s canonization.Besides, some non-aesthetic factors such as political ideology, cultural change and economicpower contribute to the canonization process. Canonization is a result of inside and outsidefactors. Precisely, it is a composition of diverse forces.
