The Japanese Experience And Literature "for Life" Of Zhou Zuoren

The culture between Chinese and Japanese always exchanges with each other. Theliterary impact and complement are motive force of both the two literature. As aChinese writer who is closely related to Japan, the experience of studying in Japanaffects the literary creation of Zhou Zuoren. Analysis of the thought of Zhou’s literarycreation will be quite significant and valuable to research into cultural and literaryexchanges and developments between China and Japan as well as to grasp the influenceof Japanese literature on Chinese new literature’s formation and development.Established on the fact that Japanese literature influences Chinese literature and basedon Zhou’s style of “for life”, this thesis will discuss about Zhou’s exotic origin of hiswriting style, the performance of his translated localization and its reason, researchinginto internal and external textual analysis with the Crenology theory of comparativeliterature.The thesis will be divided into six parts.Part one: introduction. This part aims to establish researching purpose, combingChina and Japan study of Zhou Zuoren’s literary creation and illustrate the reason whyZhou and his “for life”style are selected.Part two: Zhou Zuoren’s Literature views of “for life”. This part will be dividedinto three points. Point one is the illustration of the theme in his literary creation, mainlyfocusing on reality and popularity under the direction of his Literature views of “forlife”. Point two is the description of images in his works, concentrating on thesimplicity and naturalness of his images. Point three is the analysis of his language usedin his literary works, aiming to highlight his simple and common language.Part three: origin of “for life” style. This part, based on Zhou’s literature style, willuse principles related to Crenology, combing Zhou’s life in Japan, analyze hisunderstanding of Japanese literature as well as the general character between Zhou’s“for life” and Baihua’s humanitarianism and try to reveal that Japanese humanitarianismwhich Zhou experienced during his study is one of the most important source in formingstyle of his literature creation. Part four: differences between “for life” and humanitarianism. This part will bedivided into two points, aiming at illustrating Zhou’s innovation and variation in theprocess of translation of exotic literary theories. Point one is that “for life” style isequipped with social attribute for his affirmation and expression of personality. Pointtwo is that “for life” style reaches a common understanding both in material aspect andspiritual aspect, matching with the reality of Chinese society that material satisfaction isthe first place.Part five: the reason of the localization in Zhou’s literature views “for life”. Thispart will also be illustrated from two points. Point one is to focus on the influence ofChinese Confucianism and Buddhist on Zhou’s literary creation from the ideology. Parttwo is to analyze the influence of Chinese political expressions at that time on hiscreative activity from the aspect of political appealing.Part six: conclusion. This part will summarize the whole paper in order to get anconclusion, hoping to do more or less contribution to the exchange and communicationbetween Chinese and Japanese literature.
