Zhou Zuoren said that "among all the books he studied, the most influential one was the books of Ellis".Previous scholars have discussed the influence of Ellis on Zhou Zuoren, and on this basis the author plans to thoroughly comb and discuss the relationship between Zhou Zuoren and Ellis.Zhou Zuoren has great connections with Ellis in three aspects.First of all,on "natural" sexology: from Ellis to Zhou Zuoren. In 1923,Zhou Zuoren made a great deal of introductions to Ellis' sexology. The basic connotation of Ellis' "natural" sexology was anti-pseudo-morality.Zhou Zuoren borrowed Ellis' "natural" sexuality from three aspects: first,to advocate healthy sexual relations, paying particular attention to the emancipation of women;second,to affirm the legitimate position of literature in order to expand its scope of expression and enhance its intensity;third,to distrust the "majority of the masses".Unlike Ellis,Zhou Zuoren's expression deviated greatly from Ellis' on the philosophical basis of the thought of "natural" sexuality.Through the textual research on the concept,it is found that Zhou Zuoren's expression of Ellis' "natural" sexuality thought is based on the discussion of thinkers since late Ming Dynasty.Secondly, the formation of Zhou Zuoren's "art of life".The idea of "art of life" is a reflection and pursuit of life and art in the later period of Zhou Zuoren. The Japanese scholar Ito Tak also outlined four characteristics of the "art of life" viewpoint, but Ito did not specifically discuss the formation of Zhou's "art of life" viewpoint. The formation of Zhou Zuoren's "art of life" is influenced by three aspects,as follows.First, the exposition of life and art provided the scientific basis and artistic characteristics for the scholars.Secondly, before 1924,Zhou Zuoren thought a lot about science and art.Thirdly,"art of life" is more of a kind of outlook on life, whose outstanding feature is the recollection of the past, which is related to Zhou Zuoren's disagreement with Lu Xun and his series of setbacks in 1922-1923.Finally,Ellis and Zhou Zuoren's "The Doctrine of the Mean" as psychologicalstructure.Previous scholars have discussed Zhou Zuoren's "The Doctrine of the Mean",but there are few articles on the influence of Ellis on Zhou Zuoren's "The Doctrine of the Mean",and few people have noticed that Ellis' world outlook has the most direct and profound influence on the formation of Zhou Zuoren's "The Doctrine of the Mean".Zhou Zuoren's "The Doctrine of the Mean" is quite different from Ellis',which is mainly manifested in two aspects.Firstly,Zhou Zuoren introduced Ellis' "The Doctrine of the Mean",whose fundamental intention was still to carry out an anti-feudal ideological revolution, while Ellis' "The Doctrine of the Mean" was originally based on the social and psychological symptoms of the Victorian Era in England.Secondly, the thought of "The Doctrine of the Mean",which originally refers to the psychological state,is of political and ideological significance to Zhou Zuoren.Behind Zhou Zuoren's "The Doctrine of the Mean",there is a structure full of tension. The balance of the structure changes with Zhou Zuoren's mentality in different periods.
