Kim Hoon is one of the most representatively famous writer in South Korea since21st century.His magnum opus "song of the sword" which has sold more than one million copies since it was first published in2001is one of the best-selling books. This book made him receive the extremely authoritative DongIn prize for literature. The novel is on the background of Korea’s important historical events named Japanese Invasion of1592. It has described the life story and splendid record of Admiral Yi Sun-shin from the view of first person. At the same time, it turns the emphasis to the humanity of Yi Sun-shin.This paper attempts to focus analysis on Admiral Yi Sun-shin’s personality traits, the images of literature and the thoughts of the writer in his " song of the sword" and dissects the novel’s art nature. It will be divided into three parts to analyze in this paper.At first, the literary image of Admiral Yi Sun-shin is in a phrased description through these writing on the foundation of knowing Yi Sun-shin’s life story and comparing related histories about him. His literary image is dissected by different stages making use of historical biographical criticism according to the Japanese Invasion of1592and Yi Sun-shin’s biography.Secondly, the paper dissects the image of Admiral Yi Sun-shin by intricate relationship and contradiction from his life story with Kim Hoon’s opus "song of the sword" which reflected Admiral Yi Sun-shin’s character orientations and positive personality traits. The historical novel "song of the Sword" mainly describes the despair and loneliness of Admiral Yi Sun-shin in Japanese Invasion of1592. The book has really embodied the sadness of losing flesh and blood, the true love, facing the death calmly and his significance for the whole country. Analyzing the punishment of Yi Sun-shin because of the incapable king in the power of Seonjo. Portraying the contractions with his comrade and discussing the authority and violence of the power. The novel tells the stories about the saga of Admiral Yi Sun-shin who criticized the error of King.Seonjo, commanded the whole battle with his talented judgment and tempered justice with mercy to his subordinates.Finally, art value of the opus is presented in the last part of this paper taking use of reception aesthetics critical methods. According to the description of contrasting nature with human; scholar-officials with civilians, the miserable situation in Japanese Invasion of1592is represented, the gap between modern social reality and essence is mirrored, and the art nature is analyzed. Otherwise, with the analysis of the description of his deep feelings, we can know that admiral tried his best to suppress the individual emotion and expressed his dissatisfaction with the reality of corruption. At the same time, the paper also gives some examples to analyze the narration and stylistic feature from the opus "song of the sword".
