Latin dance is a kind of activity blending sport with art. It encompasses both the competitiveness of athletics and the beauty of art, which makes it not only a sport for leisure but also a specialty and even a means of art education. Due to the unique charm of Latin dance, over30million people are involved. With the development of popularity of Latin dance, a variety of informal training institutions have been being established. However, Most of them cannot offer a good quality of courses while pursuingthe short‐term benefits. Therefore, it is necessary to standardize the children’s Latin dance.6—12ages is a relatively important and special stage for children’s growth. It is because school‐aged children own the excellent learning capacity and the curiosity about new things. More importantly, this period is closely related to building a healthy mental and physical condition. This thesis mainly put more emphasis on studying the current problem of children’s Latin dance training for the sake of providing a reasonable theoretical reference and improving the training mode in China. The study is based on researching documents, questionnaire, interview and mathematicalstatistics, logicalanalysisandso forth, focusing on children’s trainingstatus in Shanghai. So the existing problems for school‐aged children inspire us to think of a way to reconstructLatin dancetrainingmode.According to the market research, the development situation of the after‐class Latin dance training market in Shanghai is imbalanced. The result indicates that children from6to12years old do not have enough time to practice after class, which results in low effectiveness. Additionally, most of the parents are not familiar with the field of Latin dance so they are not able to intervene in their children’s after‐class training scientifically. Furthermore, young average age level among teachers along with inadequate teaching experience, undeveloped management of this industry and training contents, training means and evaluation system not being standardized are also very obvious problems in this market. Therefore, these Latin dance training institutions in Shanghai should be properly standardized to acquire further development. This paper has done a detailed analysis towards the problems mentioned above in terms of five aspects: training goal, training content, training method, training tool and training evaluation, which stands for a goal to establish a lifelong art education for children from6to12years old, a content mainly based on basic skills of Latin dance and accompanied with ballet, a flexible training method for children from6to12years old, the establishment of a reasonable format of organization and the improvement of training tools. By doing so, we are trying to build up an after‐class Latin dance training model by adopting multiple evaluation method.
