A Study Of The Lexics Of Can Tian Tai Wu Tai Shan Ji

Can Tian Tai Wu Tai Shan Ji is a collection of diary written by the Japanesemonk named Chengxun when he went on a pilgrimage in China from A.D. March15th in1072to A.D. June12th in1073, which recorded all the things that Chengxunsaw and heard during his traveling in Song dynasty, covering the Song Buddhism,instruments, building, transportation, economy, folk custom, the Sino Japaneserelations etc. This paper takes advantage of the book as the first-hand material to dosome research, including identifying many new words or new lexical meanings whichwere in actual use in Tang or Song Age, even to further explore some words’ originfrom the perspective of lexical history; doing some research on noun words from theperspective of cultural history; finally working on the large-scale "ChineseDictionary" for some complements from the perspective of dictionary compilation.This paper is divided into four chapters:The first chapter mainly introduces the writer of the book and its content, editionand research status at home and abroad and the situation about overseas Chinesecharacters words and vocabulary of the song dynasty;The second chapter focuses on the Tang and Song vocabulary and take referenceof the large-scale "Chinese Dictionary" as the word collection standard, as to explorethe "neologism" of the vocabulary in Tang and Song dynasties;The third chapter focuses on the nouns, mainly studies the diet vocabulary,Buddhism Vocabulary and office Vocabulary;The fourth chapter includes two sections. One is the words which are notrecruited by the large-scale "Chinese Dictionary", the other is recruited but theexamples are cited late. Because all the chapters are contrasted to the large-scale"Chinese Dictionary", so there are inter-related phenomenon between the chapters andsections.Based on referring to the earliest manuscript, namely Dong Fu Si edition andcareful reading of Wang Li ping’s edition of revision, and other related books anddictionaries, this paper tries to analyze and summarize the lexical system of Can TianTai Wu Tai Shan Ji, mainly discuss the Tang and Song words of neologism, andsupplement and correct some defects of the large-scale "Chinese Dictionary". For thefirst time, vocabulary in Can Tian Tai Wu Tai Shan Ji gets studied systematically,especially Diet vocabulary, Buddhism vocabulary and Office vocabulary...
