The task report is one on a consecutive interpretation(CI) task where the author did the two-way interpretation between English and Chinese with speech scripts at hand. It describes the CI task process for the news briefing of the10th China-ASEAN Expo (CAEXPO) and China-ASEAN Business and Investment Summit (CABIS). The paper analyses the consecutive interpretation for two of the speakers, Mr Lee Chiang Siong, an official from ASEAN Secretariat, and Mr Wang Lei, an official from the Command Center for the Expo and the Summit. The report covers major stages of the task process:reception of the task, preparation and on-stage interpretation process and describes the major work in each stage. There are examples and solutions to problems the author encounters. the report is based on Gile’s Effort Model. In the preparation section, the author analyses the importance of preparation, and believes besides lingual preparation, non-lingual details should be noticed, including equipment checking and script revision. In the interpretation section, at first the author takes a close look at her performance in note-taking and sight-interpretation and the shortcomings, concluding that whether CI is successful or not greatly depends on these two skills. Meanwhile, the author analyses her blank-mindedness and silence due to poor mentality. It is believed that too many distracting concerns and a lack of confidence leads to abnormal performance. Efforts and a positive mind can tackle on-stage fright.Standing at the background of CAEXPO&CABIS, the author tries to provide an actual case in the hope that student interpreters sent from the college and other relevant interpreters could draw some lessons and will better serve the Expo and the Summit, and that the future cooperation mechanism between the college and the government will be improved.
