A Project Report On Working Conference Of Volunteers Department In Nanjing Youth Olympic Games

The reporter provided interpretation service at a number of official meetings for experts from the IOC and Volunteers Department of NYOGOC (hereinafter referred to as Nanjing Youth Olympic Games Organizing Committee) from October 2013 to July 2014. All these meetings were held by the Volunteers Department and IOC focusing on the voluntary service.With 10-month-service in NYOGOC, the reporter believes that the greatest difficulty in this project is how to deal with the extremely complicated and illogical source language and take notes smoothly. To make matters worse, unreadable notes sometimes choked interpretation flow and resulted in disordered and confusing interpretation. The reporter began to realize that the problem was caused by chaotic note-taking and failure of catching the logic and key words of the source language during the listening phase, plus various distracting information, incapability to locate the key information and insufficient knowledge of sports event related terminologies.Based on related academic achievements both home and abroad and practical experience of veteran interpreters, the reporter proposes a number of solutions under the guidance of the interpretive theory:including logic note-taking and eidetic memory training; sports event related abbreviations and corpora entitlement and application of logic thinking and chunk remolding. The reporter optimizes parts of notes and transcript by applying these solutions. By doing so, the notes are succinct and readable and the optimized transcript is more smooth and logic. All the corpus analysis in this report can make contributions to the interpretation studies and provide guidance to interpreters.
