Chinese differs from Thai language in many aspects, and there are abundant comparative research results about Chinese and Thai language. This paper makes a comparative study from the perspective of the word order of nominal phrases in Chinese and Thai language, adopts the comparative linguistics theory,"semantic motivation" theory,"orbital structure" theory, animacy hierarchy theory and large-piece external motivation theory in language typology, as well as studies the nominal phrases’ word order comparison between Chinese and Thai language. Through the comparative analysis of the two languages’ word order differences, this paper helps the second language learners to better understand the word order differences between these two languages, enhances their sensitivity and understanding of the target language’s word order, stimulates them to consciously overcome the mother language’s "negative transfer" effects on the target language learning, and also broadens the comparative study scope of Chinese and Thai language.This paper consists of three chapters:Chapter Ⅰ:"Introduction" mainly introduces the research background, significance, research methods and theoretical framework in this paper.Chapter Ⅱ:this part mainly makes a comparative analysis of the nominal phrases’ word order in Chinese and Thai language. This part finds out the positions of relative clauses in nominal phrases when ordering the modifiers respectively from the word order arrangement of pronouns, adjectives and core nouns, the word order arrangement of numerals, adjectives and core nouns, the word order arrangement of pronouns, quantifiers, adjectives and core nouns, the word order arrangement of verbs, adjectives and core nouns, the word order arrangement of possessive words, pronouns and core nouns, the word order arrangement of possessive words, pronouns, adjectives and core nouns, the word order arrangement of relative clauses and core nouns, the word order arrangement of relative clauses, adjectives and core nouns, the word order arrangement of relative clauses, pronouns and core nouns as well as the word order arrangement of relative clauses and possessive words.Chapter III:based on the comparative study in Chapter II, this part summarizes the common characteristics and individual differences of nominal phrases’word order in Chinese and Thai language.
