In recent years,the status and value of ’city’ has attracted a lot of attention inmodern Chinese literature with the speeding up of the Chinese social modernizationprocess.Compared with the traditional vernacular writing which has a long history,thestory revolves around city,reveal complex relationships between ’city and people’,theaesthetic experience and mode of production has been relatively weak.Shanghai withthe open space of the modern city opposed to traditional Chinese society,with itsunique highly developed modern urban architecture, free game of social form has lotsof topics which can be spoken.Taking Cheng Naishan’s novels as the main research object, regard far-reachinghistorical background of1980s as a witness, in this paper,I tried to put the work ofCheng Naishan in the history of literature, and also learn from cultures, semiotics,literary theory and female literature research methods, to explore the image ofShanghai in Cheng Naishan ’s works.Sequence is planed to do an overall positioning about China’s urban literaturetaking Shanghai as the main representative in contemporary literature,thedevelopment process as well as values of Chengnaishan’s work in80s.The firstchapter mainly discusses Shanghai image as well as its culture character in ChengNaishan’s works.First of all, I investigated the Shanghai images in most writer’s worksin time order from the perspective of literary history,Secondly I analyzed theconnotation of the "Shanghai image" in Cheng Naishan’s works,regarded metropolismade of landscape image and architectural space and people who are the mainbody participation of city as "two wings" of shanghai image to make themfigurative.After the representational refining,i tried to research spiritual and culturalcharacters of the city.put her work in the context of history and culture, excavated therichness of the image of Shanghai.After extraction and analysis of shanghai imagefrom the Angle of literature, the second chapter mainly study "how to shapeshanghai"in ChengNaishan’s works from the level of aesthetic.Her writing carried on ZhangAiling and Suqing’s tradition who discovered the beauty of daily life in1940s,based on them,she reconstituted a complex and rich shanghai in1980s.at thesame time,she gradually formed her typical narration-Contrast pattern.The last chapter summarizes her uniqueness and limitations in shaping shanghaiin1980s.Her writing makes a shaded "urban shanghai" in1950s-1970s revived againin the paper and provides a unique experience by its unique native perspective as wellas penetrates her reflections on history.However, the limitations of personalvision,broken images and many other factors also inevitably limit the richness ofChengNaishan’s Shanghai images.
